Upgrading your plan
Understand the Free plan's limits, what each upgrade prompt offers, and how billing works when you subscribe to Galmund+ or Member.

Galmund's core features are free to use. A handful of Free plan limits exist to keep things sustainable — Galmund+ and Member remove them.
The Free plan's limits
- Storage — 500MB total, across every memory you upload
- Memories per country — up to 10 photos or videos per country
- Active trips — 1 trip in "planning" status at a time (completed trips don't count)
Galmund+ raises storage to 30GB and removes the per-country and trip caps entirely. Member raises storage to 100GB, removes the same caps, and adds exclusive member perks.

When you'll see an upgrade prompt
Galmund shows an upgrade prompt at the moment a Free plan limit is actually relevant, rather than nagging you upfront:
- Starting a second trip while one is already in planning
- Your storage reaches 80% of the Free cap (shown once per session)
- Clicking your storage ring in the profile panel, any time
- Your storage is full and a new upload can't be published
💡 Every prompt has a "Skip for now" option — upgrading is never required to keep using what you've already added.
Subscribing
Pick monthly or annual billing on any prompt, then click the subscribe button for Galmund+ or Member. You're redirected to a Stripe-hosted checkout page to enter payment details securely — Galmund never sees or stores your card number directly. After payment succeeds, you're returned to the app and your plan updates automatically.
If you cancel or a payment fails
Your account reverts to the Free plan. Nothing gets deleted — every memory and trip you've added stays in place. The only change is that Free plan limits apply again: if your total storage is now over 500MB, new memories won't publish until you either free up space or subscribe again.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly does the Free plan limit?
Three things: 500MB of total storage, up to 10 memories per country, and 1 trip in "planning" status at a time. Trips marked done (or not yet started) don't count against that last limit.
How do I upgrade?
Any upgrade prompt has a subscribe button — click it, choose monthly or annual billing, and you're redirected to a secure Stripe checkout page. Once payment goes through, your account updates automatically; no need to refresh or log back in.
Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?
Yes. Toggle between them on any upgrade prompt before subscribing — annual billing works out cheaper per month than paying monthly.
What happens to my memories if I cancel my subscription or a payment fails?
Your account moves back to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted — all your existing memories and trips stay exactly as they are. If you're now over the Free plan's 500MB cap, you simply won't be able to publish new memories until you free up space or upgrade again.
Can I keep using Galmund on the Free plan without upgrading?
Yes. Every upgrade prompt has a "Skip for now" option. The only thing you can't do while over a Free plan limit is the specific action that limit blocks — starting a second trip in planning, adding an 11th memory to one country, or publishing a memory once you're over your storage cap.
