Once you've added places to your itinerary, you can order them in the way that makes most geographical sense.
Manual drag-and-drop
In the Itinerary section, every place has a drag handle (⋮⋮). Grab it and drag the item up or down to reorder. The change saves automatically.
Automatic route optimisation
For 3 or more stops, a Reorganize button appears at the top of the Itinerary list.

Click it to have Galmund sort your stops by the shortest travel path. After optimising, a banner shows:
Optimised: 42 km → 28 km · Undo
This tells you how much total travel distance was saved. Click Undo to revert if you prefer the original order.
How the optimisation handles multi-city trips
If your trip spans multiple cities (e.g. Tokyo and Kyoto), Galmund:
- Groups stops by city
- Sorts the city groups in the most logical order
- Optimises the route within each city separately
This prevents illogical routes like Tokyo → Kyoto → Tokyo → Kyoto.
💡 Run the optimiser after you've added all your places — it works best with a complete list. Adding a new place after optimising won't break the order, but you may want to optimise again.
Frequently asked questions
How does the automatic optimisation work?
Galmund uses a nearest-neighbour algorithm with 2-opt improvement to find the shortest open path through all your stops. For multi-city trips, it groups stops by city first to avoid zig-zagging between distant places.
Does optimisation use real road distances?
No — it uses straight-line (haversine) distances between stops. Real road routing would require a paid maps API. For most urban itineraries, the straight-line result is a good approximation.
Can I undo the automatic reorganisation?
Yes. After reorganising, a banner appears showing the distance saved with an 'Undo' button. Click it to revert to the previous order.
Does reorganising affect the schedule?
No. Reorganising changes the order in the Itinerary list but does not move items already placed in the Schedule. Re-sort the schedule manually if needed.
