Public vs. private memories
Control who can see each memory — keep some for yourself and share others on your profile.

Every memory in Galmund has a visibility setting: Public or Private. You're always in control.
How visibility works
| Setting | Who can see it |
|---|---|
| Private | Only you, when logged in |
| Public | Anyone who visits your profile (if your profile is discoverable) |
⚠️ Setting a memory to Public alone is not enough for others to see it. Your profile must also be set to Discoverable in your profile settings. Think of it as two locks: one for each memory, one for your whole profile.
Changing visibility on a memory
- Click the memory pin on the globe to open it
- Find the visibility toggle (🔓 Public / 🔒 Private)
- Toggle it — the change saves instantly

Setting visibility during upload
When uploading a new memory, the visibility field appears in the upload panel before you publish. The default is Public — change it to Private if you want to keep the memory to yourself.
What public memories show on your profile
When someone visits your profile page (galmund.com/u/username), they can see:
- The countries you've visited (always visible if profile is discoverable)
- Your public memories as pins on a mini-globe
- The labels and dates of public memories
They cannot see the full-size media, your private memories, or any trip planning data.
💡 A good approach: upload everything (it's all private by default), then selectively make your favourite moments public. You get the full globe experience privately, and share only what you want.
Frequently asked questions
If my profile is private, can anyone see my memories?
No. Even if individual memories are set to Public, they are only visible to others if your profile is also set to Discoverable in profile settings.
Can I make all my memories private at once?
Not with a single button currently — you need to toggle each memory individually. A bulk visibility change feature is on the roadmap.
Does the country still count as visited if all memories there are private?
Yes. Private memories still count towards your visited countries — the country is highlighted on your globe regardless of visibility.
Can I share a link to a specific private memory?
No. Private memories cannot be accessed by anyone else, even with a direct link. Only public memories on a discoverable profile are accessible.
