The Trip Planner is where your next adventure takes shape. Here's how to create your first trip.
Opening the Trip Planner
There are three ways to open the planner:
- From the globe — hover over any country and click the + button in the tooltip
- From My Trips — click your profile or the "Trips" button, then click + New trip
- From the Explore panel — search for a city or country and click Create trip

Country
Which country are you going to? is required — type it and select it from the dropdown. Add more than one if the trip crosses borders; each becomes its own chip in the field.
Cities (optional)
Which cities do you want to visit? is optional — leave it empty to plan at the country level for now, or add one or more cities as chips. Pick a city here and Galmund fills in its country automatically if you hadn't set one yet.
Trip title
A name for your trip (e.g. "Japan 2027" or "Road trip through Patagônia"). Galmund suggests one automatically based on the country and cities you entered.
Duration
How many days the trip lasts — defaults to 2 days, and you can change it later at any time.
Start date (optional)
If you know the dates, add a start date. This syncs the trip to the timeline on your globe. If you don't have dates yet, leave it empty.
After creating the trip
The planner opens with your trip active. You'll land on the Itinerary tab, Places section — which shows recommended places to visit in your destination.
From here you can:
- Browse and add places to your itinerary
- Add flights and accommodation in the Flights and Stays sections
- Build a day-by-day schedule in the Schedule tab
- Track your budget in the Budget tab
💡 The country you're travelling to is automatically highlighted on the globe when you open your trip — giving you a visual context for planning.
Frequently asked questions
How many trips can I create?
You can create as many trips as you like, but on the Free plan only one can be in "planning" status at a time. Mark a trip as done (or delete it) to start planning your next one — or upgrade to Galmund+ or Member to plan several at once.
Can I plan a trip to multiple countries?
Yes. When creating a trip, you can add multiple destinations. Each city or country you add gets its own section in the itinerary.
Can I plan a trip to an entire country instead of a specific city?
Yes. When you hover over a country on the globe and click +, the planner opens with the whole country as the destination. Recommended places come from the entire country.
Can I share or delete a trip?
Yes to both. Open the trip settings (⚙ icon) to rename, delete, or invite collaborators. See the Collaboration articles for details on sharing. You can also quick-delete a trip from its "⋮" menu in the Explore panel's trip list, without opening it first.
Do I have to pick a city, or can I plan for a whole country?
Country is the only required field — pick cities too if you already know where you're headed, or leave it at just the country and narrow it down later.
